Preparing for a pediatric hematology consultation
A pediatric hematology appointment is a specialist visit for a child with a blood-related concern. If your child’s doctor recommends one, ask what question the specialist is being asked to evaluate and where the appointment should take place.
Confirm what the clinic needs
Ask the receiving clinic whether it needs a referral letter, how to send records securely, and whether there are instructions for the visit. Gather copies of any relevant results and clinic notes you already have. The clinic can advise which records it wants to review.
Bring a short list of questions
Write down what you want to understand about the referral and what has happened so far. Bring an up-to-date medication list. At the visit, ask when to expect follow-up and who to contact with questions.
Where to start
If a clinician referred your child, start with the clinic or hospital they recommended. Dr. Diana Debbie L. Liu completed fellowship training in pediatric hematology-oncology. For children who need specialist assessment, Bloomkin can discuss the appropriate next step.
